Day Two (Dec 28): Salzburg

Ø   Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Mozart was a prolific and influential composer of the Classical era. He showed prodigious ability in his early childhood. Mozart composed over 600 epic pieces for opera, choir, piano and orchestra. His influence on subsequent Western art music is profound.

Ø Mozarts Geburtshaus (Mozart's Birthplace)

This is the house which Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born on January 27, 1756. Now a museum, Mozart’s birthplace introduces his first musical instruments, his friends and his passionate interest in opera. This museum also includes Mozart’s early editions of his music. I would really like to see and hear this young piano prodigy’s great pieces at his early childhood.

The museum was reconstructed and reopened in 1996. Even though this place is not exactly the same from what Mozart has lived before, it can still convey the message from Mozart about the greatness of music.

Ø  Mozarts Wohnhaus (Mozart's Residence)

Walking four minutes from Mozart’s birthplace, we come to Mozart’s residence. Mozart’s residence was reconstructed after being destroyed during the World War II and was re-opened to the public in 1996. Several original pianos and organs that Mozart played and famous pieces that he composed are listed in this place. I would be thrilled to see these original pieces that Mozart left. Mozart’s history and upbringing would help me learn more about where my inspirations are coming from.

ØStiftskitche St Peter (St Peter's Abbey)

St Peter's Abbey was founded in 696 by Saint Rupert at the site of a Late Antique church stemming from the first Christianization in the area in the days of Severinus of Noricum. Mozart's Great Mass in C minor was premiered in the church, probably on 26 October 1783, with his wife Constanze singing first soprano.
